VISUALIZATION
Have you heard of visualization?
It’s used in martial arts as well as many other sports. It’s actually a cool way to train when you’re not…training. Athletes from high school to the pros use visualization as part of their training and it’s proven to be highly effective.
The mind goes through all the movements and techniques and it make the communication between your mind and your muscles strong. If you can do a considerable amount of visualization you are programming your mind body connection and should you ever need the techniques your mind will be able to tell your body what to do without requiring too much thought.
When you are at home you can add the actual movements to the visualization process, kind of like shadow boxing, if that makes any sense.
In case you are thinking about practicing these techniques with a friend, for example sparring like they do in martial arts, be aware that this is self defense and not martial arts.
Visualization is an important training tool in self defense because you will be learning seriously damaging techniques that should only be used on a real attacker. We will be discussing those in a moment.
The more you visualize these techniques the more effective you will be. You shouldn’t have to think about a technique before using it. It should be automatic.
In other words, your self defense techniques should be as familiar as walking or swatting away a fly. They should become second nature, no thinking about it, just doing it.
